Sally-Rae Upman was born and raised in Pretoria on 19 September 1986. Her parents Norman and Rene Upman realized her potential for acting after a director who noticed Sally-Rae performing in a church play recommended that they send her for acting training and placing her with a talent agency. Sally-Rae debuted in 1992 on television when she was 5 years old in an advertisement for a clothing brand. She rapidly progressed in her young career by acting in multiple television advertisements, working as a voice over artist and acting in numerous episodes of children's television programs Kideo and Wordpower. In 2005 Sally-Rae attended the University of Pretoria and attained a degree in Drama and went on to complete an honors degree in Film & Drama in 2008. In 2006 Sally-Rae started a production company aptly named Little Sis Productions in order to hone in on her producing, editing and directing skills. Over the next 5 years she produced two short films, a myriad of videos and two documentaries. At 24 years old Sally-Rae immigrated to New Zealand and resides in Wellington.
