Originally from Kazan, Russia, Arkady Shabashev (or, more precisely, Shabashov) was one of the leading jazz trombonist on the struggling Soviet jazz scene, and performed with the U.S.S.R.'s leading jazz big band, the Oleg Lundstrem Orchestra, from mid-1960s until he, at the height of Cold War-era emigration from the Soviet Union, moved to New York City in 1977. In 1980s, Shabashev produced an American singing duo specializing in Russian songs, The Rose Sisters. He was still active as trombonist on the club scene in the 2000s, and wrote arrangements and original songs for several Russian pop singers who would visit the U.S.
