Sjón is an internationally acclaimed author, working in various literary forms and film genres. Translated into more than 35 languages, among his novels are The Blue Fox, The Whispering Muse, From the Mouth of the Whale, Moonstone and CoDex 1962, for which he has won several nominations and awards including the Nordic Council's Literature Prize and the Icelandic Literary Prize. In 2017 Sjón became the third writer - following Margaret Atwood and David Mitchell - to contribute to Future Library, a public artwork based in Norway spanning 100 years. Sjón has also written poetry collections, opera librettos and lyrics for various musicians. His collaboration with Icelandic singer Björk started in the early 80s and has produced such hits as Isobel, Bachelorette, Jóga, Cosmogony and Oceania, the opening song for the 2004 Olympics in Athens. As a screenwriter Sjón has worked on comedy, horror, drama, crime and children's films. Most recently he co-wrote the screenplays for the Icelandic film Lamb, featuring Noomi Rapace, and Robert Eggers' upcoming medieval revenge saga The Northman. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his lyrics in Lars von Trier's Dancer in the Dark at the 2001 Oscars ceremony. Sjón lives and works in Reykjavík.
