Born in London in 1959, Richard's passion for performance grew from watching his parents, Alice and George, performing with the Tower Theatre Company. Having acted and directed at university in Cambridge, on graduating in 1980, Richard co-founded Cambridge Experimental Theatre to create more immediate, physical and dynamic work than most conventional theatre. Cambridge Experimental Theatre toured extensively throughout Britain and Europe, performing a mix of new work and classics, especially Shakespeare. Richard was Artistic Director of Cambridge Experimental Theatre from 1980 until 2000, when he founded in situ: with Bella Stewart and Pete Arnold. Since then, Richard has worked as actor, director, teacher and writer.
