Catherine Swing has grown up in the film and television industry. After winning an Ontario-wide talent search she made her acting debut on a CBC Television after-school program and was soon balancing acting work with Fine Arts studies at York University in Toronto. While working 'on camera' as an actor, host, and interviewer, Catherine was also being educated in the business of film and television. A creative thinker with strong problem solving abilities, her interest 'behind the camera' grew, as did opportunities to become more involved in television development and production. As a creator and host of the highly successful family game show Just Like Mom, Catherine was actively involved in the day-to-day production and success of the show's five seasons on national television. And, while working overseas on stories in developing countries for World Vision television broadcasts, Catherine really began to hone her field producing skills. Shooting in physically and emotionally challenging circumstances strengthened her creative problem solving skills and fueled her passion and commitment to search out and tell engaging stories that move, inspire and enlighten. With strong storytelling ability and great attention to all details of production, Catherine contributed her talents as a story producer, researcher, and production manager to The Canadians, Biographies of a Nation for three seasons on History Television. Her experience as an actor proved invaluable when casting and producing dramatic recreations for In the Nick of Time (TLC). She then developed and produced Peanuts, an award-winning one-hour documentary focusing on issues of sustainable development in Mali, West Africa for TV Ontario and Discovery. A great understanding of the world of factual, lifestyle, and reality / competitive reality programming has offered many opportunities for Catherine to lead teams as a series producer responsible for all aspects of production, and, as a director, to bring her keen sense of visual storytelling to each project - Divine Design with Candice Olson, W Network & HGTV U.S.; And Go!, City TV; Style by Jury, W Network; World's Greenest Homes, HGTV Canada & Discovery U.S; Recipe to Riches, Global and Food Network; Risky Business with W. Brett Wilson, Slice and Global; Sugarstars for Food Network; The Mistress for Slice; Still Standing and Keeping Canada Alive for CBC; Million Dollar Neighbourhood and My Baby's Having a Baby for OWN; Colin & Justin's Cabin Pressure, Cottage Life (Canadian Screen Award Nomination, Best Director) Catherine has built on her experience with a wide variety of programming that has captivated and emotionally engaged viewers - from writing, producing and directing Direct Response Television segments that have raised millions of dollars for charitable organizations throughout North America, to a series of commercials, one of which won an Angel Award for Broadcast Excellence. Catherine Swing is actively involved in various forms of creative programming and looks forward to developing, producing and directing innovative and entertaining content for broadcast and convergent media. With a great capacity for provocative storytelling, she brings a quest for excellence to each project she embraces.
