Frédéric Choffat is a filmmaker and photographer of Swiss and French nationality. He has been collaborating since 1997 with Julie Gilbert, with whom he writes and produces photography, radio and film projects. The Real Life Is Elsewhere (2006), his first feature film, was invited to festivals around the world; Mangrove (2011), his second feature film, was in competition at the Locarno International Film Festival and won the Best Independent Film Award at the CinegearExpo in L.A. as well as the Panavision New Filmmaker Program Award for Cinematography. He has worked on contemporary operas, and has also directed numerous short films and documentaries. He received in 2016 the Louise Weiss Award from the Association of European Journalists. His new feature film, My Little One (2019) is integrally filmed in Arizona, into the Navajo Nation, with Anna Mouglalis, Mathieu Demy, Vincent Bonillo and Ruby Matenko.
