The Barbarians were a scruffy 60s garage rock group from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The band first got together in 1964. The members were Bruce Benson, Ronnie Enos, Jerry Causi, and legendary one-handed drummer Victor "Moulty" Moulton. The Barbarians appears as themselves and perform the wonderfully grungy number "Hey Little Bird" on both the musical variety television program "Shindig" and the terrific rock concert documentary "The T.A.M.I. Show." The group had a modest success with the catchy and witty tune "Are You a Boy or Are You a Girl?," which reached #55 on the Billboard pop charts. Moreover, the Barbarians recorded a highly amusing and melodramatic ditty called "Moulty" about how their drummer lost part of his left arm in an explosion at age 14 in 1959. This song barely registered on the Billboard pop charts at #90. Alas, such follow-up songs as "What the New Breed Say" likewise didn't fare too well. The Barbarians disbanded in 1968.
