Robert started his career in film by accepting an invitation to study at the New York Film Academy in the U.S. His NYFA graduation film, 'Retrospective', premiered in the U.K at the inaugural Commonwealth Film Festival in 2002. Shortly before going to the U.S, he worked for the production company double A films on the feature project 'Coney Island Baby', and went on to work with them again whilst living in New York. On returning to the U.K, he became involved in the production side of short films in producing capacities before establishing a production company, Interloper Films Ltd, for his new directing project 'Interloper' - a popular, darkly stylised short film funded through the U.K Film Council. 'Interloper' went on to screen at several international film festivals, including Cannes, and picked up a couple of best film nominations along the way.
