American writer, biographer and historian John Morton Blum was born in New York City in 1921. He graduated from Harvard University in 1943 with an A.B., received his M.A. from the university in 1947 and his PhD in 1950. He later became an associate professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 1956 he joined the faculty of Yale University as a history professor and from 1963-64 was a Put Professor of American History at Cambridge University in Massachusetts. He served in the US Naval Reserve from 1943-46, with the rank of lieutenant. He has written several volumes, including a biography, on US President Theodore Roosevelt. He died in North Branford, Connecticut, in 2011.
