A former Sheldon and Lucy Hackney Professor of History at the University of Pennsylvania since 1976. While at University of Tennessee he received his bachelor's and master's degrees and gained his PH.D. in History in 1976 from Harvard University. An author of several books on the subject of the Second World War and modern Germany. Holding of Visiting Professorships at Trinity Hall College, Cambridge, Smith College and Swarthmore College. Apart from receiving many awards and Fellowships, he has, too, lectured in Berlin, Munich, Oxford, London and amongst other universities within the United States and Europe and retired on April 25th, 2017 as a Professor Emeritus.
