Dorit was born in Vienna and grew up in Bratislava and Prague. She came to England in 1939 and was educated at Fulneck Girls School, Pudsey and at the Esmee Church's Bradford Theatre School. Her first professional role was Viola in Twelfth Night, with David Giles. She played many stage roles with many of the great English Actors including Robert Donat (Murder in the Cathedral), 'Wilfred Lawson', The Boy Friend, Rebecca (Mrs de Winter), and worked with Lupino Lane in Me and My Girl. For BBC Radio Drama she worked with Ralph Richardson (The Heiress), 'Sybil Thorndyke', Jessie Matthews, Donald Wolfit and Dudley Moore. In 1952 she married Alan Haines and in 2002 they will celebrate their Golden Wedding.
