Iskra Yossiffova was born on February 26, 1954 in Cherven bryag, Bulgaria. In 1972-1973 she studied sociology at the Institute of Economics in Sofia. Iskra Yossiffova was among the first students in Film Directing in The National Academy of Theatre and Film Art in Sofia. She graduated from "Cinema and television director" in 1978 in the classes of Professor Christo Christov (assistant Georgi Djulgerov). From 1979 till 1991 she worked at the Boyana Film Studio, Sofia, Bulgaria. She debuted with the film "Journey" (1980) being co-director with Malina Petrova. She shot two feature films: "Love Therapy" (1986) and "Cruel and Innocent" (1989). She has directed a number of documentaries, some of them awarded with national and international awards, and her film "The Wall" (1988) about John Lennon became a symbol of rebellion against any kind of conformism. Iskra Yossiffova died on September 14, 2005.
