Diego Álvarez was one of the most outstanding film, theater and television actors in Colombia. He was noted in the mid-1980s for his youthful roles on television and later in film. However, his fame and talent were affected by the drug addiction in which the actor fell. That problem attracted him problems when working to the point of ending up in the Bogotá district prison for drug possession. In prison, he overcame his addiction and started a theater company. When he left, he resumed his activities with apparent normality but after attending a party he fell into drug addiction. His death, which occurred on the night of April 30, 1993, was due to an accidental fall from his apartment. It was believed that it had been a murder since the Prosecutor's Office had found a recording on his answering machine in which he pleaded not to be hurt. Due to this, Álvarez's partner and several people were arrested and jailed but released shortly after for lack of evidence. Álvarez's death was due to his drug use causing hallucinations; he had left the phone wrong hanged causing the answering machine to record the voices and sounds of the television that Álvarez was watching at that time, including the static sounds of it when the broadcast ends. Álvarez's paranoia, caused by drugs, caused him to accidentally fall from his third-floor apartment.
