Marshall Miller and partner 'Dorian Solot' are the founders of the Alternatives to Marriage Project, a national non-profit organization for unmarried people, including people who choose not to marry, cannot marry, or live together before marriage. As a speakers, writers, and researchers, Miller and Solot work for greater understanding and acceptance of unmarried people and oppose discrimination on the basis of marital status. They are experts on the issues facing unmarried people, having interviewed hundreds of unmarried people and studied the research on marriage and cohabitation. Their views are enhanced by their own experiences in a committed, long-term unmarried relationship since 1993. Miller and Solot authored the Affirmation of Family Diversity, which has been signed by hundreds of therapists, authors, community leaders, religious leaders, and citizens, and calls for support of the diverse families that exist today. The Alternatives to Marriage Project website has drawn tens of thousands of visitors, and the organization has grown rapidly since it was founded in 1998. ATMP has over 3,000 members representing all 50 states and over three dozen countries, and appears in the media hundreds of times each year. Recent media appearances include NBC News, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, National Public Radio, USA Today, Time, Money, The Los Angeles Times, and numerous other newspapers, radio, and television shows.
