Gratien Tonna was a handsome, muscular, middleweight boxer who dominated the European 160 pound division from 1970-1980. Noted for his knockout power, iron chin and muscular build, he soon earned a world rating. Won the French Middleweight Title on February 1, 1974 defeated Fabio Bettini. Captured the European Middleweight Title on May 7, 1975 by decisioning Kevin Finnegan. Twice fought for the World Middleweight Championship. Retired in 1980 with a 44-8 record with 37 knockouts. Made an unsuccessful comeback in 1984 which ended a year later with back-to-back first round knockout losses to Brian Anderson and Yombo Araka.
