One of the most notable GWF superstars of the late 1990s and early 2000s was Dennis "NeoPlox" Whitman. Whitman was born in Albany and got involved in sports-entertainment by 1997-1998. In June of 1998, he joined with Joe Bonilla's Global Wrestling Federation and this initially was the stepping stone to a career of hits and misses. At a September 1998 GWF Monday Night Attitude (1997) event, NeoPlox (his character name) showed his ruthless aggression by taking down an innocent female bystander he had prior problems with in the past. By 1999, when the GWF was beginning to become a powerhouse, Whitman was pushed to the forerunner division of John Washington Co. (parent of GWF at the time). In 2000, after the original superstars left in the Fall, Whitman became one of the promotion's sole biggest superstars and brought in a variety of talent who still work for the GWF today. On January 18, 2001, however, the world of Dennis Whitman came crumbling down when he was arrested for morphine possession with fellow ex-GWF superstar Mean Gene Virano. Whitman was then put on suspension from Global Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Inc. and nothing looked to be up for him. By the Spring of 2001, Whitman returned to the GWF during the 2001 Wrestling Resurgence Era. In the summer also, Whitman became a volatile character on GWF-TV still during Joe Bonilla's love attraction angle in July 2001. Looking toward the end of 2001, things looked to be working out for Dennis Whitman until he went back to hard drugs once again. On January 1, 2002, he was fired from the GWF after a four year stint due to executive order from Joe Bonilla. Finally, after being in rehab for most of 2002, Whitman contacted Bonilla in August 2002. Bonilla then anticipated a comeback to the GWF in September, but it didn't pan out. Now in 2003, Whitman seems to be on track to build his career back up in sports-entertainment.
