Born in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, John Bert has always had an interest in film production. After graduating from Beaver High School in 1984, he became involved in historic preservation as a living historian, appearing as an extra in "Dances With Wolves" and "Gettysburg" before being contacted to work as a military advisor on "Gods and Generals" and "Cold Mountain". It was on "Cold Mountain" that he had the honor to work with two other respected historians; Brian C. Pohanka and Michael Kraus. Those scenes were shot in Romania. In recent years, he has served as a historical consultant on several History Channel projects, including "Battlefield Detectives" and "Ten Days That Changed America" as well as assistant director on the upcoming African-American documentary "For Love of Liberty", "Christmas and the Civil War", "Red Legged Devils" and the new ad campaign for the US Border Patrol. In December 2005, he wrapped as advisor on "The Revolution" for Partisan Pictures. He served as the Military Coordinator for "John Adams" for HBO and Playtone as well as serving in the Property Department. He was the First Assistant Director for the visitor's center films for the Vicksburg National Battlefield and the National Museum of the Marine Corps. In 2009, he partnered with David M. Brown to expand Goldbug Motion Picture Services in Atlanta, Georgia, growing the craft service division. In doing so, he served as Key Craft Service on several motion pictures and television programs including "The Walking Dead", "The Vampire Diaries", "Captain America: Civil War" and "Anchorman 2" to name a few. In 2013, he returned to the art department, working as the assistant property master on HBO's comedy series "VEEP", "Lewis & Clark", and "True Memoirs of an International Assassin" and ABC Television's remake of "Dirty Dancing".
