Considered a legend of English football, especially by Liverpool fans, John Barnes was born in Jamaica and moved to England aged 12. His most notable playing career was for Watford between 1981 and 1987 and Liverpool between 1987 and 1997. He also played in 79 matches for England, scoring 11 goals, and was a member of the England squads for the 1986 World Cup, when the team reached the quarterfinals, and the 1990 World Cup, when England reached the semifinals, which became their best run since 1966 (and remained so until 2018). He also famously performed a rap on (and appeared in the video for) the New Order World Cup song "World in Motion", which was a number-one hit in 1990. He finished his England career as the country's most capped black footballer.
