Born in Oakland, California on April 5th, 1938, Robert Zagone has been one of the most invaluable documentarians starting in the early 196os, of the vibrant musical and cultural scene of San Francisco and the larger Bay Area he has remained rooted in.He graduated from UC Berkeley in 1962 and within a year of starting as a volunteer editing assistant at San Francisco's KQED public television channel, he was already a producer and director. In his journalistic work he documented the conditions of that city's Tenderloin neighborhood in 1966,and in his work with the rock performers of that era he was one of the first to shoot music videos. He has been married to Phyllis Maier.
