Best known for his work on the stage, "Doe Doe" Green started his acting life as a rodeo clown and comedian for the 101 Ranch Circus and worked his way east as a comedian on the TOBA circuit, and as an actor in minstrel shows, vaudeville, and, ultimately, the legitimate stage. He was best known for his role as the Angel Gabriel in "The Green Pastures," alongside Richard B. Harrison as "De Lawd," but Green's removal from the role of Gabriel in the movie version (replaced by Oscar Polk) caused some comment in the contemporary press. Green was also known as a songwriter and playwright.
