Nelson Pereyra, a first generation American, was born and raised in New York City of Dominican immigrants. Well immersed in the early immigrant experience, by the age of 5, he displayed his love of music by playing the guira, tambora, and congas. At the age of 10 he was enrolled in St. Patrick's Military Academy, a boarding school, where he further embraced his love of music, and developed a passion for the trumpet. Nelson played the trumpet for two years in the marching band, then for the All City Jazz & other concert bands. As his musical skills matured, he played popular music in the Latin music industry in New York City. His passion and artistic skills led him to further embrace the Dominican/Caribbean culture, opening up opportunities to study and perform with well known choreographers , Eddy Torres, David Melendez (Mambo Elite) and the Razzmatazz Dance Company. After mastering the stage, his desire to remain in the arts industry grew and was blessed with an opportunity in the film business. This is where he felt he found his true calling. When he first set foot on a movie set and saw John McTiernan compose a movie scene, he knew that was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. Nelson has been blessed with working and acquiring wisdom from some of the best filmmakers and film production companies from New York City to Hollywood. His work has been behind incredible shows and movies like "New York Undercover", "Law & Order", "The Peacemaker", "200 Cigarettes", "Die Hard with a Vengeance" and more. The fabric of his work include well known directors like Joel Schumacher, Mimi Leader and Richard Donner. His work has also been recognized by the HBO Latino Film Festival and the Tribeca Film Festival. He later took on a bigger role as a film producer, completing projects such as "Stone Cold Killers" (Los Jodedores) and "Vote for Me!" He's concentrating on his own scripts, and has a five picture deal in negotiations. With his multi-cultural childhood upbringing, Nelson brings a special dynamic to the filmmaking industry that speaks not only to the Latin immigrant experience, but the overall dynamics that come with growing up in New York City.
