As is often the case in real life, Lary Crews became an actor by chance. During a 35-year career as a radio broadcaster and program director at various radio stations in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Michigan, and Florida. Crews appeared in more than a 35-community theater and dinner theater productions. He served as director Robert Altman's personal assistant on advance production of the film Health filmed in St. Pete Beach FL. Crews also wrote three published paperback mystery novels, one of them - Extreme Close-Up - based loosely on his experiences on Health. Married to Lori Crews in Burbank, CA, Crews worked for former TV magician Mark Wilson and his wife and costar Nani Darnell. In Las Vegas, Lary was the opening magic act for magician Rick Thomas at the Tropicana. 2008 - 2010, in Los Angeles again, starred in five student films, worked as a background actor in Cold Case (CBS), Hawthorne (TNT), Heroes (NBC), Miracle on the Hudson (Nippon TV), Raising the Bar (TNT), Solved (ID), Sons of Anarchy (FX), and The Office (NBC). In addition, Lary Crews had a featured part as the "whistling 1940s ghost dad" as part of "The Smiling Family" in the feature film Insidious (2011) starring Patrick Wilson.
