Karl Hamann was born in Los Angeles and has lived in both northern and southern California. He has worked with directors J.J. Abrams (Alias), and David Dobkin (Mr. Woodcock), and has appeared in network television series as well in a number of independent features. He fell in love with the theater when he was stage manager of a 1,300 seat school theater, working with national touring companies such as The Martha Graham Dance Company and National Theater for the Deaf. At the University of California, Berkeley, he was a founding member of The Yam Complex, an independent student group writing, producing and performing plays and street theater. He also co-founded and co-directed an improvisational ensemble class inspired by The Open Theater, Grotowski, and Het Werkteater of Amsterdam. While in New York City, he wrote, produced and performed satirical sketch comedy in the comedy duo Hamann/Abrams, at both La Mama Cabaret and The Westbank Downstairs Theater Bar (under Lewis Black, artistic director). Karl lives in Los Angeles, working in film and television. He received an LA Weekly Theater Award and a Drama-Logue Award for his performance in the West Coast Premiere of The Adjustment. Karl can also be seen as Yogi Karl in one of the Internet's earliest viral video series, Purrr-fect Yoga.
