Katherine Valentine is an actress, director, and writer and comedian. She studied Dance at New York University. As an actress Ms. Valentine is best known for her character-based comedy performances in the downtown NY scene, particularly the hilariously severe Austrian Mistress of Ceremonies character, Miss Astrid. As a theatre director, she has come to specialize in collaborating with performers on developing their original works as well as her own. She is the creator of the seminal burlesque show The Va Va Voom Room 1997-2005 as well its emcee, Miss Astrid. Besides having the first bi-coastal burlesque show ever (running weekly in NYC and San Francisco), Miss Astrid and The Va Va Voom Room have performed all over Europe and the US including the annual productions of The New York Burlesque Festival and the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas. In addition to teaching theatre classes in the Performance Studies Department at N.Y.U., Ms. Valentine has taught in Italy, the U.K., Finland and Sweden.
