Bania Medjbar was born in Marseille, France, of Algerian origins. Very early, she got in contact with cinematography and begun to write movies at the documentary school such as: Impression de voyage, Mères amères, which were sélected and rewarded at the International Documentary Festival of Marseille and Le marché aux puces and J'ai fait un rêve. In 2003, she produced and realised Quand le vent tisse les fleurs, first short fiction which was choosen at the « Quinzaine des réalisateurs ». The following, Des enfants dans les arbres was selected during the competition at the Clermont Ferrand Festival in 2010. She was equally an assistant or casting director for a number of cineastes namely Laurent Cantet, Christian Petzold, Abbas Kiarostami, Brigitte Roüan, Christophe Ruggia, Merzak Allouache, Claire Simon, Jean-Pierre Thorn, Dominique Cabrera. In 2014 along with Delphine Camolli, she created Les Films du Goeland Production, to notably developp her long length projects.
