“I think acting has a lot to do with impossibilities, things that hadn't occurred to me, that are alien to me.” Sandra Hüller is a German actress in film, theater and television, known for her performance in the film Toni Erdmann (2016), where she played Ines, an executive who confronts her father, and that film earned her her first Academy Award nomination. Sandra studied theater at the Ernst Busch School of Performing Arts in Berlin, acted at the Jena Theater in Thuringia and years later joined the Basel Theater in Switzerland. The beginning of her career in cinema was with the film Hedda Gabler (2006) and that same year she starred in Requiem (2006), a film with which she won the Silver Bear for Best Female Performance at the Berlin Film Festival. In 2023 she starred in two films that premiered in the main competition at the Cannes Film Festival: the court drama Anatomy of a Fall by Justine Triet, which won the festival's Palme d'Or, and the Holocaust drama, Zone of Interest, by Jonathan Glazer, which won the Grand Prix, for the latter film she also received nominations for several awards: Best Actress at the Oscar Awards, Best Actress in a Drama at the Golden Globe Awards, the BAFTA, the Satellite and the Society of International Cinephiles Awards. In addition to her film work, Hüller has had a significant career in theater and television in Germany, displaying a wide range of acting skills.
