Joel Goldes

Date of birth : 09/28/1963
City of birth : Carmel, California, USA

Dialect coach Joel Goldes can coach any dialect of spoken English, and in addition to all of the most-requested dialects (British, American, Irish, French, German, New York, Southern, etc.) he specializes in the less well-known. He has recently taught Uzbek, Mozambique and Azeri accents. Joel recently coached Shia LaBeouf in an English accent for Lars Von Trier's Nymphomaniac and an Iowa accent for Fury. He coached the lead actor in NBC's upcoming The Night Shift and several characters on HBO's hit series True Blood. Joel created an accent of the future for the sci-fi feature After Earth, starring Will and Jaden Smith. Kevin Costner won the 2012 Emmy Award for Best Actor in a Mini-series after Joel prepped him in a West Virginia accent for Hatfields & McCoys. Joel trains two spokespeople in foreign accents for national commercial campaigns. Joel has coached actors like Will and Jaden Smith, Alexander Skarsgård, Sophie Okonedo, Shia Lebeouf, Jim Broadbent, Viola Davis, Anil Kapoor, Jessica Chastain, Nicolas Cage, Julia Ormond, Dennis Farina, Jason Lee, Alfre Woodard, Kevin Costner, Christopher Lambert, Roger Daltrey, Samantha Morton, Ken Jeong, Mike Myers, Jennifer Garner, Jason Isaacs, Wilmer Valderrama, Justin Chatwin, Emmy Rossum, Emily Bergl, Simon Baker, Ryan Phillippe and thousands of others. Joel trained as an actor, and always loved doing accents. Part of his graduate training at the University of California at Irvine was three years of daily voice and speech classes. It was at UCI that he learned dialects systematically, and began to teach undergraduate classes there while earning his Master of Fine Arts degree (MFA). Everywhere he worked as an actor, he would also either dialect coach plays or work with actors privately teaching them dialects. As his career moved from acting to directing in New York, he continued to coach dialects, with this part of his career eventually taking over. Joel's work as an actor and a director uniquely qualifies him as a dialect coach: not only can he guide you in the subtleties of a new accent, he can also help you explore that accent within your character's given circumstances. He's conversant in the language of acting and enjoys working with actors, so you'll have his empathetic ear. Joel has been seen in front of the camera on Holly's World, I Know My Kids a Star, From Gs to Gents, Chef Academy, Black. White., TV Candy, the Starz Network, MTV and ABC Family's Switched.
