Elliott Haimoff (b. 1955; Los Angeles, CA, USA), is a biologist, primatologist and documentary filmmaker. In 1990 Haimoff founded Global Science Productions to develop and distribute educational television programs and news segments about space, biology, health, sports and nature. In the mid-1970s, Haimoff led a team of researchers on an expedition to record and remotely transmit real-time video of endangered primates in his pioneering efforts to use early video recordings to analyze human and animal behavior. Haimoff received his Ph.D. in Biology from Cambridge University (Pembroke College) in England. The noted author, evolutionary biologist and curator of Chicago's Field Museum of Natural History, Dr. Robert Martin, was Haimoff's doctoral thesis academic examiner. Haimoff returned to the US to conduct pioneering research at UCLA as a Research Professor in Biology in the mid- to late-1980s. There he conducted further research aimed at preserving the gibbon ape, a primate on the verge of extinction. The communist Chinese government invited Haimoff to analyze the remote forested regions of the country to select parcels designated as wildlife protection reserves. Haimoff's numerous articles on primate conservation, primate behavior, evolution and ecology have been published globally in scientific journals. In the late 1980s, Haimoff was enticed to become a producer at the Science and Society Unit at the Los Angeles PBS station, KCET, headed by Roger Bingham. There, Haimoff produced several science segments on science, medicine, conservation, global climate change, cosmic background radiation, black holes, cold dark matter and quasars, on DNA fingerprinting and genome-sequencing computers. The unit won two Los Angeles Emmy Awards in 1989 and 1990, presented by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS) in recognition of excellence in the local programming of the Greater Los Angeles Area. In 1990, Haimoff founded his own independent TV documentary production company, Global Science Productions. The company's films about NASA, like "Apollo 13: The Untold Story", and "Moonwalkers: The Men of Apollo", as well as programs about the Los Angeles Lakers and pro sports "33STR8: The Greatest Record in Pro Sports History" and "Game Changer: The Dennis Murphy Story", have been featured in many publications including several mentions in Variety magazine, Billboard Magazine and TV Guide over the past 30 years. Haimoff's space exploration programs profiling female astronauts, like "Dr. Sally Ride: Space Pioneer" and another show about the late Judy Resnick, "Women Space Pioneers", were reviewed in The Citizen newspaper (Houston's daily newspaper for the Cape Canaveral area) in a 1995 piece about the 10-year memorial of the astronauts who perished in the Challenger disaster, and the Los Angeles Times spotlighted "Space Frontiers: The Moon, Mars and Beyond." Many of the full-length documentaries in Global Science Productions' library focus on controversial topics facing society, including stem cell therapy, regenerative medicine, cloning of human beings, genetic engineering/modification of food crops, veterinary stem-cell therapies to regenerate tissue, and humankind's future destiny in space, as well as future manned missions to Mars. According to Kristi Hauta, of San Diego-based VetStem Biopharma, Haimoff's documentary "Animal Pharm: Where Beasts Meet Biotech" (2019), "...provides a great service to the public by providing legitimate education about cell therapy in the veterinary field and how this can assist the field of human stem cell therapy." Animal Pharm received the award for Best Nature and Animals Film in the Brentwood and Pacific Palisades International Film Festival. The space publication 'Final Frontier' hailed Global Science Productions as "far and away the leader in space exploration programs." Satellite network "The Einstein Channel" aired hundreds of Global Science Productions' episodes on the early "space race" days of NASA, which premiered when the new network launched. Haimoff is currently working on a variety of sports and medical full-length documentaries for the international TV markets.
