Cuban-American Mirtha Vega is a writer/director/producer, and casting director. Her first feature, Tryst (2003), is a claustrophobic thriller set in a boutique hotel room and shot in San Francisco, CA. Based on historical facts - and shot in the UK - her second feature, The Human Solution (2021), is a harrowing drama that deals with the topic of eugenics and is set in 1938 and 1953 Sweden. As a filmmaker, Ms. Vega is particularly fascinated by stories that delve deeply into the human condition, exploring the choices characters ultimately choose to make. Rather than offering up passive tales, she elects to engage audiences with questions - what if this happened to me, how would I react in this situation, etc. - daring them to go along for the ride as they watch each film. Additionally, Ms. Vega likes to "discover" actors and give them a shot on the screen. Her gambles have paid off in surprisingly moving ways, as evidenced by the cast of The Human Solution, which is comprised entirely of British theater actors with no or relatively few screen credits to speak of. A passionate storyteller, Ms. Vega has eleven more films to make that span a variety of genres, some to be shot in the US, some abroad. She is very committed to supporting women behind the camera and all future productions (as in the case of The Human Solution) will have a 100% female production crew, without any discrimination whatsoever on the basis of nationality, disability, sexual orientation, race, age or creed. The particular emphasis will be given to hiring huge talents that have been overlooked for far too long or are just breaking out.
