Ann Hayward Sparks was born on the Subic Bay U.S. Naval Base in the Philippine Islands. Her family lived and traveled in the United States but eventually settled in Utah. Ann's father was a journalist and her mother is an artist. She grew up in a large family of creativity and curiosity, which led her to work in the film industry with its all-encompassing interests. She has worked on feature and independent films, network series, television productions and radio/TV commercials; as well as original Theatre in the Park productions, other staged works, and music touring groups. Ann was a crew member at the summer Sundance Film Labs, working on short films such as "Cinderella" with Alfred Molina and Christina Ricci, and with other projects, actors and directors; and as staff for the Sundance Winter Film Festival. Ann has a bachelor's degree in film, a master's in professional communication and a MBA marketing certificate. She also added technology strategy courses in intellectual property management, licensing and business law to her criteria. Awarded a semi-finalist spot in the Utah Entrepreneur Challenge, Ann was invited to Harvard Business School's Executive Education program. To become more familiar with film business procedures, Ann attended the University of Southern California's summer film business and distribution program, learning from seasoned faculty members as well as experienced executive producers and filmmakers on the Universal Studios lot.
