Gojira is a French metal band formed as Godzilla in 1996 in Bayonne, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of southwestern France. The four members changed the name of the band to Gojira in 2001. The band's lineup, pretty archetypal for a rock band, is composed of lead vocalist / rhythm guitarist Joe Duplantier, lead guitarist Christian Andreu, bassist Jean-Michel Labadie and drummer / backing vocalist Mario Duplantier. The singer, Joe, and the drummer of Gojira, Mario, are brothers. They produced six studio albums between 2001 and 2016 : Terra Incognita (2001), The Link (2003), From Mars to Sirius (2005), The Way of All Flesh (2008), L'Enfant Sauvage (2012) and Magma (2016). From Mars to Sirius gave them exposure outside France and offered them the opportunity to tour through Europe and in the U.S. with metal big names as Lamb of God, Machine Head and Annihilator. In 2009, they ended up accompanying Metallica on their American tour. Recognized for their explosive, intense and very technical live performances, Gojira keeps gaining importance on the metal scene, helped in this by international tours and many festivals in which they play throughout the world. In 2017, they played as a supporting act on Metallica's American tour, and in 2019 they toured to support Slipknot's U.S. tour.
