Olivia Colman

Biography

"I don't have a process; I just feel it. My book on acting would be very short". Olivia Colman is a British actress considered by many to be the best of the decade, known for her quirky wit and sharp, wry sense of humor, embodying quintessential British charm. Raised in Norfolk, near the sea, she navigated the complexities of childhood to pursue acting, garnering recognition from esteemed institutions such as the British and American Film Academies and then at Cambridge University Footlights, which propelled her into a successful career in comedy with renowned television series such as "Rev" and "Peep Show". Her dramatic gifts shone in "Redemption" and "Broadchurch," which won her awards including a BAFTA, but Colman's global rise came with "The Favourite" in 2018, which earned her her first Oscar for her portrayal of Queen Anne. With the role of Queen Elizabeth II in "The Crown," she garnered more accolades through two seasons, along with her memorable performance in "Fleabag." Despite her illustrious career, the cheerful Colman remains humble, candidly sharing her journey from struggling with insecurity to triumphing on stage and screen, winning multiple awards as a testament to her resilience and talent including an Emmy, Golden Globes, SAGs, and BAFTAs.

2025 Oscars | Oscars Cheat Code: Play a President!

With less than a month to go until the 97th Academy Awards ceremony, this year’s awards season is in full swing. As a seasoned film enthusiast, I’m already looking ahead to next year’s race. After all, the Oscars aren’t just a celebration of cinema; they’re also a “psychological battle” filled with strategy and omens. So, are there any signs or secrets to a film securing a place at the Oscars? You might say that biopics are more likely to win the Academy’s favor, or that Cannes Film Festival win

How Watching 'The Bear' Season 3 Led Me to My First Therapy Session

Recently, I started seeing a psychologist for the first time in my life, and one of the reasons that pushed me to do it was "The Bear" Season 3. First off, let me clarify that I'm not saying "The Bear" is so bad it drove me to therapy. Quite the opposite—the third season is so well-crafted that I'm totally immersed in it. It made me realize something I'd been denying all the while: some psychological wounds don't just heal as you grow up, and time alone can't fix them. Even if you know there's a

Bob Woolsey: This is a beautiful article. I also loved the 3rd season, despite the many criticisms of the story being meandering. You've tapped into one of the core tenants of the show from my point of view - do you need to be damaged to be able to achieve at a high level? When Carmy turns his back on Claire because he believes he can't have a successful restaurant AND a healthy relationship, it really highlights this trade off. However, in the end, I think Carmy is just using that as an excuse and running from someone who genuinely cares for him because he doesn't know how to receive that love. I also love the Tina episode in this season. She's such a wonderful character who also has underlying trauma and uses obvious defence mechanisms to keep herself from getting hurt. Seeing her backstory was very affecting. What a great show!

The Bear: A Piece of Work which Tells About Another “Piece of Work”

In S2E1 of “The Bear”, the title displays as "THE BEAR PART II", and at the end of this episode, the words "THE BEAR PART 2" also appear in the restaurant's decoration plan which hangs on the wall. "The Bear" can be interpreted as a narrative encapsulated within a narrative. The characters within the story treat the restaurant as their own creation, much like the creators of the series are shaping their own work. The mindset of both entities mirrors each other, reflecting a shared state of creat

"Wicked Little Letters": A Powerful Blow to Patriarchy

After watching "Wicked Little Letters," I found it to be a work that subverts the stereotypes of mad women and the “Angel of the Hearth and Home” archetype created by men. The film seems to provoke the public with questions: Do you really know who I am? Do you truly believe women can be simply categorized? Are you panicking now, unable to judge anymore? However, upon reflection, I noticed a lingering question: Why did Rose hide the truth about her "husband," and why did she flee Ireland? This re

Here is Everything You Want to Know about Wonka

All Willy Wonka's fans, get ready for a sweet feast! In January 2021, news broke that Warner Bros. was secretly working on a significant project — a prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory titled Wonka. The film has been in planning and development since 2016. Back then, Fantastic Beasts producer David Heyman had just signed on with some critical people in the industry.
