Andy Martinez Jr. was born and raised in Miami, Florida. Of Cuban descent, he graduated from St. Brendan Senior High. An exceptional athlete, he was drafted to play professional baseball by the Chicago White Sox, however, he opted to pursue his true passion for creative writing and the arts. At Miami Dade College, his theater professor recognized some potential and encouraged him to take on acting as a profession.
