The first time a producer tasked this grip with baby-sitting camera gear for an early crew call, Jon got creative. He made an impromptu short film that evening. That's Not All aired on ABC! Introduced by Dick Clark and Ed McMahon as the best in home video on TV Bloopers and Practical Jokes. His first documentary Wild Winds aired on KGMB (CBS) and was distributed by Booklines. His first TV Special was hosted by Chris Berman and aired on ESPN. His first dramatic film Tis the Season aired on KITV (ABC), and won the Children's Jury Award at the Chicago International Children Film Festival. In 2011, Jon Brekke joined the Island Film Group Studios at Hawaii Media Inc, where he is in post-production on his first feature film, A Breath To Survive, a drama about a woman who unplugs from corporate life to discover an artist within herself. Slated next for production is, Tiramisu on the Beach. Also scripted are, About Men, a dramatic comedy about how men grieve, Merry Christmas Roberta, an award winning theatre drama about a Chinatown family that befriends a homeless woman, and Fathers and Sons a drama translated from the Russian novel by award winning writer/director Michael Wurth. Director of Creative Services for Time Warner Cable in Hawaii from 2002 to 2011, Brekke reported to the President. He built a state of the art green screen studio and post-production facility and produced hundreds of programming hours in sports and entertainment. He produced 6 NCAA regional playoff events and 3 statewide telethons for the Red Cross including Kokua for Japan, which raised 1.6 Million for Tsunami victims and was nominated for the VH1 Do Something Awards. He launched 5 interactive TV channels including the Green Channel and OIWI TV (the Hawaiian Channel.) He also turned OC16 into a 24-hour network increasing ratings 62% in one year (according to Nielsen.) Brekke has managed and executed millions of dollars worth of TV, film and video productions garnering over 20 awards. Jon has been a guest speaker at the University of Hawaii, Bamboo Ridge, Hawaii Pacific University, and Leeward Community College. He served on two advisory boards at LCC in Digital and TV Production. He is a board member with Manoa Valley Theater and President of the Board with ARTS at Marks.
