Têtes Raides is not like most French rock groups : their noirish mix of accoustic jams and surreal lyrics is welcome respite from US pop's stranglehold on French music. What's created is an historically aware, lightly anachronistic mix of Jacques Brel, Georges Brassens and Téléphone. This is a touring band, a troupe in the old style. The energy of their live show is hardly conveyed in recordings.
