Hakeem Khaaliq is a visionary cinematographer, an award winning film director, multi-media activist, graphic artist, television producer, and music producer. He is the co-founder of the internationally distributed publication and news media outlet, Nation19 and a former program director for NBC interactive. A native to Southern California, Hakeem has a family history in film and photography. His father, a stuntman with work featured in the popular black liberation film "The Spook Who Sat By The Door", and great nephew to Addison N. Scurlock one of the most prestigious black photographers in US history, filmmaking and photography come natural for Hakeem. Early in his career, he began directing and producing documentary films (the first film directed starred Snoop Dogg and Sean Puffy Combs), but his passion for social change and activism led him to direct and produce films focusing on pressing global issues. Hakeem has written, directed, designed, and produced for Michael Jackson, Snoop Dogg, Sean "Puffy" Combs, David Banner, Russell Simmons, Kobe Bryant, MGM Television, Derrick Rose, Aloe Blacc, NBC Interactive, WBLS (New York), and KIISfm (Burbank). In 2014 he was featured in Ebony Magazine for his artistic photographic documentation publication "Invisible Mexico", which is the culmination of 13 years of research photographing indigenous cultures in Central America, showcasing their beauty, heritage, and ancient monuments. He is also the 2016 recipient of The Mutianyu Artist Fellowship in Beijing China, and his work has been featured on MTV, VH1, Showtime, NBC, Lions Gate Films, PBS, and Univision Television Network.
