Istvan Dugalin has acted in such productions as Neil Simon's Biloxi Blues at the Annex Theatre, as well as performing in Morris Panych's 7 Stories with the Young Actors Performance Troupe of Toronto. With Young Actors he gained experience as both a lighting designer and production manager which lead him to pursue theatre technical production. His lighting design credits include Inherit the Wind for the Village Playhouse and Agnes of God for LORE Productions at the Poor Alex. After completing one year of Theatre Technical Production at Ryerson University, he was asked to direct the second staging of a play about disabilities, Equability, that was commissioned by the Ryerson Access Centre. After completing the Directing Screen Performance course at Ryerson, he left school to stage a production of Peter Shaffer's Equus. In 2001, Istvan teamed up with fellow Ryerson alumni, Charlene Baldacchino and founded Raised Eyebrow Productions, an independent production company dedicated to producing off the wall theatre and film. Istvan has produced and directed four short digital films. The first, I Shall Fear was shown at the 1999 Victoria Independent Film and Video Festival. The latest, Put That Away, was screened as part of the Digital Gun Awards in Toronto (December 2003). In 2003, Istvan also completed his first feature film, a horror piece called The Modern Things. He is inspired by the little plants that grow out of the cracks in the sidewalk.
