Doris Kareva

Doris Kareva has been born in Tallin, the capital of Estonia, where she completed her high school education and in 1977 went to University of Tartu to study literature of Germanic and Italic languages, graduating in 1983. Since adolescence she is writing poetry and her poems had been published since 1974. Her first poetry collection "Päevapildid" has been published in 1978., and keeps publishing regularly since then gaining numerous awards for her work. She also works for theaters and translates poetry, and musicians from different countries recorded songs using her lyrics in Estonian or translated to other languages. She wrote lyrics for several songs composed by her father, famous Estonian composer Hillar Kareva. From 1992 till 2008 she was a general secretary of Estonian National UNESCO Committee.
