Rich Gannon was drafted out of Delaware in 1987 by the New England Patriots as a running back. Was released in training camp, and signed with the Minnesota Vikings, where he went back to the position he played in college, quarterback. He id not play much his first few years, finally getting getting on the field in 1989. Emerged with Minnesota after starter Tommy Kramer retired, and back up Wade Wilson signed with the New Orleans Saints. Rich Gannon bounced around the league before finally emerging as a star with the Oakland Raiders. His career was ended by a concussion he suffered after a hit by Tampa Bay Buccanneers line backer Derrick Brooks in a 2003 regular season game. Gannon also played for the Wshington Redskins during his NFL tenure. Rich Gannon is the only quarterback in NFL history from Delaware to play in the super Bowl.
