The rock group Scandal was formed in 1981 in New York City. The original members are: Patty Smyth (singer), Zack Smith (guitarist), Benjy King (keyboardist), Frankie La Rocka (drummer), Ivan Elias (bassist), and Keith Mack (guitarist). Paul Schaeffer and Jon Bon Jovi were both briefly members of the group. Scandal started out as an opening act for such artists as the Kinks and Hall & Oates. The band released a self-titled debut EP in 1982; this EP beget the modestly successful hit songs "Goodbye to You," "Love's Got a Line on You," and "Hands Tied." Scandal issued the album "The Warrior" in 1984; the rousing title track peaked at #7 on the Billboard pop charts and the album sold over a million copies. The follow-up single "Beat of a Heart" stalled at #41 on the Billboard pop charts in 1985. The group broke up that same year. In 2004 Scandal got back together and embarked on a small reunion tour in 2005. Two members of the band are sadly no longer with us: Bassist Ivan Elias died of cancer at age 45 in 1995 while drummer Frankie La Rocka passed away from complications following open heart surgery on May 11, 2005.
