Former pro tennis player, now retired. Won back-to-back U.S. Open titles in 1997 & 1998. On July 26, 1999, became first Aussie to reach No. 1 since John Newcombe in July 1974. Comes from the largest family on ATP tour, third-youngest of nine children (six boys, three girls). The Patrick Rafter Cherish the Children Foundation was officially launched in February 1999 and his sister, Louise, runs the organization. In February 2001, cut his trademark ponytail hairstyle as part of a promotion to raise $26,000 for charity.
