Emily Smart grew up in a small town in Michigan but fell in love with the Caribbean and its culture back in 2003 while working as the Production Manager on the documentary "Chattel House" in Barbados.. She has lived in the Caribbean since 2006 and has been working in the film industry for almost 20 years in the roles of Editor, 1st Assistant Director, Consulting Producer, and Production Manager /Coordinator. Emily has worked with independent filmmakers and corporate clients on a wide variety of film and video projects. Some of the clients she's worked with include: UNICEF, CARICOM, Avon, Caribbean Export Development Agency, Bocas Lit Fest and Caribbean Tourism Organization. In 2022, Emily produced/wrote/directed her first short film "The Incident", which has been an official selection at several film festivals including The Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival 2022 and Toronto Black Film Festival 2023. This film represents her decades long dream of becoming a writer/director. The short film is part of the back story for the feature film she is developing, a supernatural female-driven thriller: "Shadow Legacy" to be shot in Trinidad. In addition to the feature, Emily has several projects in development including a TV series about Caribbean vampires and its pilot script was a finalist at the Oaxaca FilmFest Screenplay Competition.
