Born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina, he attended Georgia Tech's Industrial Engineering College in Atlanta for one year before dropping out to join the US Air Force, which stationed him at Yokota Air Force Base, Tokyo, Japan (Far East Headquarters). A few months before his 4-year enlistment was up, he was one of 10 servicemen to get a surprise invitation to a Head of State Dinner with President George H.W. Bush, but had to decline because he'd grown 2 inches and gained 20 pounds since he last wore his civilian suit! Worked in finance on 3 occasions: for the Bank of America, Charles Schwab, and Merrill Lynch, where his best call was recommending buying Ford stock when it was briefly beaten down to one dollar per share by "The Great Recession". He counts himself fortunate to have lived in San Francisco for years where "sometimes it felt like living in a postcard" when it was possible for regular people to live there. He has also lived and worked in Chapel Hill, New York, Seattle, San Diego, Honolulu, Seoul, and Taipei. His favorite day job was working for the United Way of the San Francisco Bay Area as a Charitable Fundraiser, where he broke records on his biggest account two years in a row despite having no education in social work and no sales experience. Afficionado of Film Noir, Neo Noir, Fantasy, Science Fiction, and the "New Hollywood" era of the late 60s and 70s. Has many fond memories of the late 70s-early-80s cultural era dominated by freely bicycling around the suburbs to visit his buddies, reading Fantasy and Sci-Fi Novels, watching Spielberg and Lucas movies, reading Marvel Comic Books, playing D&D, Arcade Games, and Home Computer Games that movies like "Ready Player One" and TV shows like "Stranger Things" pay homage to. Has historically enjoyed TV comedies MASH, Seinfeld, Cheers, Frasier, The Simpsons, and finds Rick and Morty to be inventive. Used to enjoy Family Guy and American Dad -- now, not so much. Sometimes a little FCC censorship is a good thing. Has not historically enjoyed many TV dramas, preferring film, has not caught up with all the good new TV dramas, and likely never will. One recent TV drama that he did watch in its entirety was the smart and stylish Mad Men. A few of his favorite directors are Orson Welles, Bergman, Kurosawa, Francis Ford Coppola, Kubrick, Ridley Scott, and Martin Scorsese. Having lunch with Coppola at Cafe Zoetrope in 2001 remains one of his fondest memories even though they didn't talk about movies! A few of his favorite young directors are Christopher Nolan, Darren Aronofsky, David Fincher, Nicolas Winding Refn, and Sean Baker. Worked at a Movie Theater during his Senior Year in High School even though it paid less than SC's minimum wage. Grew up watching as much TV as any kid, but rarely owned one as an adult, preferring to read books, go to movies, and go out. An Autodidact for the most part, he has nonetheless taken classes at 7 different colleges (including the official Air Force college). Double-Majored in Film Criticism and Film Production at Santa Monica College, where he was a prolific Producer. Spent years learning how to write screenplays on his own and finds most college screenwriting classes to be of dubious value. Nontheless, he is an Alumni of the Veteran's Writing Workshop at the Writer's Guild Foundation. Member of Veterans in Media and Entertainment. Enjoys photography and used to shoot with a Nikon, but switched to Sony when they invented the A7S mirrorless camera. Prone to wandering enthusiasms: while researching a fashion model character for a script, he realized he missed wearing cologne, which he wore from age 13 to 30 but stopped when his favorite one got reformulated. One year of exploration later, he owned 30 bottles of cologne. Interested in DNA and Family Histories. After a Grandparent passed away at age 95, he spent some time working on his Family Tree and made a number of surprising discoveries. Travis is the 8th Cousin (twice removed) of actress Jennifer Lawrence, with their common ancestor being Henry Lawrence (1644-1739) of Virginia, who was his 9th great-grandfather. Travis is the 12th-great-grandson of Sir John Field, who was knighted for writing the first English treatises on Copernican Astronomy, and is related to all sorts of other people, both great and small. Resides near Runyon Canyon in West Los Angeles, where he likes to take his dog for long walks in the Hollywood Hills.
