David Plaut was born in Cincinnati, OH on September 2, 1953. He graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in Radio/TV/Film in 1975. From 1976-2018 Plaut was a senior producer at NFL Films, where he was a creator and show runner of TV series for ESPN, HBO, NFL Network and Showtime. Plaut was nominated for 12 national Sports Emmy awards, winning 7 times. He was the supervising producer for the annual Super Bowl champions home video, the first of its kind in any sport. He was the producer of three of the top ten highest-grossing sports home videos in retail history. Plaut was a writer/director on over 900 weekly NFL TV series episodes and supervising producer on nearly 100 home video productions. In addition to film and TV production, Plaut is the author of five books, and served as literary critic for USA Today Sports Weekly from 1991-2006.
