Dave Murray

Meteorologist Dave Murray was born on October 3, 1956. Mr Murray attended the University of Rhode Islad where he majored in coastal forecasting. He also studied for his Master's in thunderstorm forecasting at the University of Wyoming. He earned degrees from the University of Southern California and an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis. Dave Murray began his broadcasting career at age 22 and at 24 he joined St. Louis's NBC affiliate KSDK-TV where he remained until 1983 when ABC network executives hired him to be the new Chief Meteorologist/Weathercaster for both "Good Morning America" with David Hartman and Joan Lunden, and "World News This Morning" with Steve Bell. Over time Dave Murray missed the challenges and excitement of sever weather forecasting that is so prevalent in the Midwest. Murray remained in New York until 1989 when St. Louis's then ABC affiliate, KTVI-TV, offered him the position of chief meteorologist. He remained with KTVI through it's affiliation change from ABC to FOX-News in 1995 until his retirement from on-screen broadcast in September of 2018, a career of 42 years in broadcasting ,36 of which were in the St. Louis market. Dave Murray was awarded 12 Emmy Awards for "Best Weathercaster" (Midwestern Region). Dave was innovative, having pioneered the first visual 24-hour warning system in St. Louis, and highly accurate, a trait not often observed in weather forecasting. In 1981 Dave Murray wed former KSDK-TV news reporter, Janis Settle Murray. They have one child, Austin Mark Settle Murray (born in 1982.). Aside from his life-long passion for weather, Dave Murray is an avid gardener. He has served on the board of the Missouri Botanical Garden for several years in the early 1990s. He created "Murray's Mulch Pile," a weekly TV feature on KSDK-TV in the 1970s, which evolved into "The Home Garden" a weekly TV segment for KTVI for 19 years. Since retirement the Murrays have resided in Laguna Beach, California
