Originally from Northern California, Specland began his writing career at the age of 16, as a contributing journalist for The Contra Costa Times in the East Bay Area. By 2015, he was combining his interest in telling true life stories with screenwriting, culminating in his Black List script NYAD, about famed swimmer Diana Nyad's quest to do the unthinkable: swim from Cuba to Florida, non-stop, at the age of 64. He then wrote THE IMPOSSIBLE WAR for Black Bear Pictures, based on the true story of Jonas Salk and Albert Sabin's race to find a cure for Polio, REINCARNATION TYPE, a thriller feature in the works from Bad Robot, and an untitled biopic from Mandalay Sports Media about Brazilian jiu-jitsu master Rorion Gracie and the founding of the UFC. In TV, he's developed drama pilots with Fox and CBS. A fan of all genres, Robert's a true sucker for underdog stories. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and very stubborn dog.
