Ana Lasic is a screenplay writer and a playwright born in Belgrade, Serbia - former Yugoslavia in 1972. She graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Arts, Department of Dramaturgy and Screenplay Writing in 1999. Her senior thesis play "Where Are You Coming From?" won the "Selenic prize," a prize annually given for best graduating play. The play won third prize at the Competition for the best EX-YU play in 2000, organized by Theater m.b.H. in Vienna, Austria. It was also read at the »Theatertreffen« in Berlin and »Schiller Tage« in Mannheim. "Where Are You Coming From?" has been printed in German and its original Serbian in the collection of plays named "Schutzzone und andere neue Stucke aus Exjugoslavien" published Folio Verlag 2002. In 2000, Lasic moved to Ljubljana, Slovenia. In November 2004, her first feature film "Ruins," was released. She wrote the script together with director Janez Burger. The film won the prize for the "Best Slovenian Film" at the 7th Slovenian Film Festival, and went to festivals around Europe and the United States, including the Rotterdam film festival(main program), Karlovy Vary (in competition), Minneapolis (competitive section), Motovun (competition), Palm Springs, to name just a few. At the Lecce film festival, "Ruins" won the Special Jury Award. Lasic's plays have been produced in Slovenia and abroad. "For Now Nowhere," was performed at the Slovene National Theatre Drama in Ljubljana in 2005, and at the Jugoslav Drama Theare in Belgrade in 2009. "Where Are You Coming From?" was first performed at Theater Forum in Berlin, in March of 2008. For "For Now Nowhere" Lasic won the Dominik Smole Price for the best Slovenian play 2006 at the festival "Borstnikovo srecanje." In 2009, Lasic wrote the screenplay for TV film "Angela Vode, Hidden Memories." The film won the "Viktor" prize for the best Slovenian TV film. In 2011. Slovenian series "In Treatment" original (BeTupul), also won the "Viktor" prize, for the best Slovenian TV series. She was writing adaptation for all 45 episodes. In 2013 and 2014, Lasic wrote screenplays for two more films. One is "Balkan Is Not Dead" directed by Aleksandar Popovski (prod. Kino oko, Robert Naskov), and "Driving School" directed by Janez Burger (prod. RTV Slovenia). In 2016, Lasic wrote an adaptation of "One Hundred Years of Solitude" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez for Pandur theaters. In Slovenia, Lasic taught screenwriting intensively for many years, last five at the State Academy for Theater, Film and TV, Agrft in Ljubljana. She is also a docent for Screenwriting for film and TV. Now, with her new theater play "Down By the River Styx" and her brand new screenplay for feature film "Green Softness" she is returning to her own stories.
