Filipa Reis was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1977. She is a Portuguese film director and producer known for Djon Africa (2018). She is a film and television producer and director since 2000, with a background in Business Management and a postgraduate degree in Cinema and Television. As director, she co-directed several documentaries with João Miller Guerra and Djon Africa (2018), her debut feature fiction premiered in Rotterdam Tiger Competition in 2019. Légua, her second feature, also co-directed with João Miller Guerra, is presently in post-production. In 2008, Filipa started her own independent production company where she creates fiction and creative documentary projects as Uma Pedra no Sapato and TV content under the label Vende-se Filmes. The company is currently engaged in international co-production features by award-winning Portuguese directors Miguel Gomes, Margarida Cardoso, Pedro Pinho, Marco Martins, Filipa Reis and João Miller Guerra, José Filipe Costa, Paulo Abreu and Leonor Teles (Golden Bear Berlinale Shorts 2016), as well as developing debut features by young talent Maureen Fazendeiro, Duarte Coimbra, Sofia Bost, Ágata Pinho, Aya Koretzky and Takashi Sugimoto. The films produced and directed by Filipa Reis are selected and awarded in major festivals (Berlin - Golden Bear 2016, Cannes, Venice, Rotterdam - Ammodo Tiger Short 2023, Locarno, San Sebastian), have international release and distribution in TV and VoD all over the world. Filipa Reis is a member of Eurodoc, Emerging Producers and EAVE networks, she was the president of the Portuguese Association of Film Directors (APR) and was vice-president of the Portuguese Association of Television Independent Producers.
