Born and raised in Holland, Michigan, Teairra was strongly encouraged by her paternal parents to follow a singer career. She started her singer career at the age of twelve and she was lucky to catch the attention of Big Mike, Ed K, and Helluvah of Detroit's K.I.S.S. Productions, which trained her for the next years. She was slated to work with producers and songwriters like Helluvah, Disco D, Big Mike, Chaz M, Detail, Lyriq, AK, and J.R. and the great results appeared soon. In October 2003, the label released Teairra's first album, an EP called Get Away, which became a local success. At sixteen, her mentors considered that she was "rippen" sufficiently for the big performance and introduced her to Daryl Simmons who produced her second album that became a kind female anthem of the year. Teairra Mari' album, Roc-A-Fella Presents: Teairra Mari, was released in 2005. The album reached the #5 position on the Billboard 200 albums chart and #2 on the Billboard R&B charts and made her a true star. In 2007 Teairra Mari attended the Video Music Awards.
