A graduate of NYFA Los Angeles in Directing, Editing and Scriptwriting, Carlos Meléndez has directed many short films, including Chalino Rivera (2008), Silver Star (2009), Beast (2010), Red Light (2011), and The Host (2013), all of which screened at international film festivals, such as Morelia International Film Festival, Rencontres Cinemas D'Amerique Latine de Toulouse, Macabro International Horror Film Festival, among many others. His first feature film, After School (2014), was also Carlos's directorial debut in the USA, and won Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Feature Film awards at the Encuentro Mundial de Cine 2014. The film was also included in the Official Selection of the Imagen Awards 2014, the Georgia Latino Film Festival 2014, the Maverick Awards 2014, the Viva Latino Film Festival 2015, the Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema 2015, and the Chicago Latino Film Festival 2015. Histeria (2016), Carlos's second feature film, celebrated its world premiere at the Merida Yucatan International Film Festival 2016, and won the Best Director award at the Macabro International Horror Film Festival 2016 in Mexico City, as well as Best Drama Feature Film at the Sydney Indie Film Festival 2016. The film was an Official Selection for festivals such as the Oaxaca International Film Festival 2016, the San Diego Latino Film Festival 2017, Cinequest Film & VR Festival 2017, and others. Carlos was selected to be part of the project Mexico Barbaro II (2017), an anthology horror feature film comprising the work of eight different directors. The film premiered at the 2017 Fantaspoa International Film Festival in Brazil, and has screened at over 20 film festivals around the world. He has recently directed chapters for Netflix's The Unknown Hitman.
